We’re really chuffed to bits today to see the on-pack for the Old Pulteney Ultimate Sailing Experience being launched. We spent some time with Old Pulteney this year and created a brand tool kit, which was to showcase the brand experience and consumer opportunities available to the brand.

After a few Old Pulteneys, we came up with the concept of associating the brand with the Clipper experience to offer world wide brand exposure.  We also added in a consumer competition element, which we’re delighted is being rolled out as we speak as an on-pack on Old Pulteney bottles.

Old Pulteney’s Ultimate Sailing Experience will offer one lucky thrill seeker the unique opportunity to take to the high seas on the ‘Old Pulteney’ yacht and compete in the famous Clipper Round the World Race.

Competition entry will be driven by an on-pack promotion which will be rolled out throughout the UK from this month, with the winner will be joining the 20-strong yacht crew in June 2014, for Clipper’s final leg as they race to the finish line from New York harbour to London.

Named after its ‘maritime malt’ sponsor, the ‘Old Pulteney’ is one of Clipper’s fleet of 12 state-of-the-art ocean racing yachts which are competing in the year long race around the world. Its crew is made up of men and women from all walks of life who gave up their normal lives to train and take on the adventure of a lifetime.

To enter the competition, whisky enthusiasts must submit their applications by midnight on Friday 31st January and, like most of the Clipper crew, no prior sailing experience is required. Entry is via www.clipper-oldpulteney.com/competition using a unique code which can be found on all promotional bottles of Old Pulteney 12 year old. A shortlist of entrants will be selected by Old Pulteney in early February and asked to complete a full Clipper application form, with five finalists selected and invited to attend a group interview session with sailing experts from the Clipper Race.

The overall winner will be selected from the five and announced at the end of February, before undertaking a Clipper pre-race training programme to teach them all they need to know before they embark on the voyage of a lifetime.

Old Pulteney’s partnership with Clipper is rooted in the whisky’s strong maritime heritage and long standing involvement with sailing. Pulteney Distillery is one of the most northerly on the UK mainland – and whisky connoisseurs say they can detect a faint hint of the sea in the delicious malt thanks to its windswept location and close proximity to the North Sea.

Over 650 crew members from over 40 nationalities are taking part in the Clipper 2013-14 Race, which started on Sunday, 1 September at St Katharine Docks, London and will return to the UK in July 2014. The Clipper Race fleet is made up of twelve super yachts with each one sponsored by a different destination or brand.
